INVITATION TO THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE MEDIA

What:   The Stakeholders Workshop is being convened to provide a platform for exchange, dialogue, and information sharing on fast-tracking blue economy outcomes for the African continent.

Who : The African Union (AU) Member States (MS), RECs, African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), the Private sector, Women and Youth Groups.

When:   23- 24 November 2021.

Where:  Windhoek, Namibia  

Time :   9:00 AM

ABOUT THE STAKEHOLDERS WORKSHOP:

The multisectoral and multilayered nature of the blue economy requires full engagement of stakeholders from various sectors. Furthermore, the blue economy offers the potential for Africa’s women and youth to meaningfully participate in blue/green jobs. As such, the workshop is designed to trigger and amplify exchanges between actors and users of maritime and blue economy goods and services to ensure an inclusive and sustainable implementation of the Africa blue economy strategy.

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Improve awareness on the potential of the sector in Africa
  2. Identify policy and knowledge gaps among Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and Member States when it comes to the implementation of the blue economy;
  3. Identify opportunities and constraints for the implementation of the Blue Economy Strategy in the continent;
  4. Set up coordination mechanisms for implementation of the Africa Blue Economy Strategy;
  5. Share lessons and best practices;
  6. Initiate the development of a monitoring and reporting framework for the strategy and;
  7. Launch stakeholder community initiatives @Annex
