New York, USA, 17th September 2017: The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat has arrived in New York, at the head of an AU Commission delegation to participate in the 72nd United Nations General Assembly (UNGA72), taking place in New York, United States of America.

Accompanied by the AU Commissioners, Chairperson Faki and his delegation will participate in various high-level meetings with United Nations Officials as well as Heads of State and Government from the African continent and the world, to forge on with Africa’s Agenda 2063, map progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals and accelerate implementation of Agenda 2030.

“I look forward to fruitful engagements and outcomes on critical issues impacting Africa and our continental organisation, the Africa Union Commission.” Said Moussa Faki Mahamat, who was received upon his arrival by Amb. Antonio Tete, Representative of the AU Observer Mission to the United Nations.

Chairperson Faki is expected to meet with UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, during which they will discuss issues of peace, security and development. Both leaders will assess progress made on AU-UN Framework Agreement signed when they first met in April 2017.

The AUC delegation will participate in a number of high-level meetings focussing on - amongst others - the situation in South Sudan, Libya and the Central African Republic. Activities also include events organized by the AU Commission and Partners.
