The African Union Commission held consultations with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and the Island States on the Common African Position on Population and Development 

4-5 September 2019 Windhoek, Namibia and 12-13 September 2019 Antananarivo, Madagascar: 

The African Union Commission held consultations with the Island States on the Common African Position on Population and Development from 12-13 September 2019 Antananarivo, Madagascar. 

The Island States consultation was attended by senior government representatives from the Ministry of Population of Cabo Verde, Comoros, Equatorial Guinea, Madagascar and Seychelles and the United Nations Population Fund.

The Commission also organized the consultation with the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), organized with the support of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF),from 4-5 September 2019 Windhoek, Namibia. The CSOs consultation boasted over a hundred participants from civil society organizations, UN agencies, NGOs and donors. 

Guided by AU Agenda 2063, Aspirations One (1) and Six (6) which advocate for ‘a prosperous Africa based on inclusive growth and sustainable development, an Africa whose development is people-driven, relying on the potential offered by African people, especially its women and youth, and caring for children’, the Common African Position on Population and Development aims to identify shared values, best practices and divergences, in country and  between regions that will contribute to the continent achieving  the aspirations set forth by Agenda 2063.
