Background information.

A National or Regional Quality Infrastructure is taken as the totality of the institutional framework including both the public and private sector that requires an establishment and implementation of  standardization, metrology (scientific, industrial and legal), accreditation, conformity assessment  services (inspection, testing, and product and system certification) and Market Surveillance  necessary to provide acceptable evidence that products and services meet defined requirements,  be it demanded by authorities (technical regulation) or the market place (contractually or inferred). Quality Infrastructure contributes to governmental policy objectives in areas including industrial development, trade competitiveness in global markets, efficient use of natural and human resources, food safety, health, the environment and climate change.

Specific objectives:

  • Creating awareness for different stakeholders and showcasing the work of the PAQI and its contribution to Africa’s industrial development and AfCFTA Implementation.
  • Presenting PAQI joint projects supporting Member states’ contribution to elimination of trade technical barriers to trade.
  • Paving the way for collaboration and cooperation between PAQI Institutions and key stakeholders.
  • Increasing and stimulating enthusiasm, supporting investments and mobilizing knowledge and resources for QI related projects; and
  • Raising awareness of Quality Infrastructure’s role in development to Policy makers
