The African Union International Centre for Girls and Women’s Education in Africa (African Union CIEFFA) is organising the 2nd African Union CIEFFA Focal Points’ Meeting in Kampala, Uganda from June 20 – 22, 2023.  The meeting will be held under the theme From Continental to National Levels: A coordinated implementation of the #AfricaEducatesHer Campaign”. The event brings together African Union CIEFFA Focal Points from over 20 African Union Member States Ministries of Education, Gender, and Family Affairs to discuss practical ways of effectively domesticating and implementing the #AfricaEducatesHer Campaign at national levels.

The advocacy campaign, launched in September 2020 is a clarion call for African Union (AU) Member States to safeguard girls’ education in Africa and ensure girls continue learning during and post the COVID-19-related school closures and disruptions. The Campaign has as objective to offer solutions and recommendations on continental, national, and community levels to promote, encourage and protect girls’ right to education, especially during emergency situations and humanitarian crises.

The meeting is equally geared at following up the implementation of the June 2022 Dakar Declaration on “Assessing Learning Losses to Embrace Learning Recovery for African Girls” endorsed by African Union Member States and International Development Partners.

Discussions will also center around; collaborative efforts to engage AU Members States on the implementation of policies on girls’ education, the needs and challenges of Member States in ‘‘Data and Evidencing in Girls’ Education”, and out-of-school girls reintegration at national levels. The Focal points will be schooled on evidence for policymaking in Africa in the context of Girls’ education as well as the use of the Educational Management Information System (EMIS)..

Objectives

  1. Develop a deep understanding of the #AfricaEducatesHer Campaign and its objectives.
  2. Share best practices and lessons learned from initiatives promoting education for girls and women in different African Union Member States.
  3. Identify common challenges and opportunities for addressing barriers to girls’ and women’s education.
  4. Develop a roadmap for implementing the #AfricaEducatesHer Campaign in African Union Member States, including specific goals, activities, and timelines.
