INVITATION TO THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE MEDIA

WHAT: Fourth Ordinary Session of the Specialized Technical Committee of the African Union on Public Service, Local Governments, Urban Development and Decentralization (AU-STC n°8).
 26 – 27 May 2021: Experts Meeting
 28 May 2021: Ministerial Meeting

Registration should be done in advance. After registration, a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting is sent to the participant.

TIME: From 10:00 a.m. (EAT)
WHY: In accordance with Articles 7, 9 and 16 (2) of the AU-STC no 8 Rules of Procedure, the African Union Commission, in its capacity as AU-STC no 8 Secretariat, should organize the Fourth Ordinary Session of the African Union Specialized Technical Committee No. 8 on in order to renew the Bureau of the AU-STC no 8, to inform on the achievement made by the outgoing Bureau during its term (2019-2020); to deliberate on any specific issues concerning the three (3) Subcommittees of AU-STC no 8.

OBJECTIVES: The main objective of the Fourth Ordinary Session of AU-STC no 8 is to provide a common platform for ministers of the public service / administration; decentralization and local governance; Housing and Urban Development and their Senior Officials, to be informed and appreciate the progress made by the outgoing AU-STC no 8 Bureau during its term (2019-2020) and deliberate on any specific issues concerning the three (3) Subcommittees.

Specific Objectives are to:
• Update members States on achievement made by the outgoing Bureau during its term (2019-2020) and challenges encountered;
• Renew the AU-STCno8 Bureau for a period of two years (2021-2022);
• Consider a work plan for a period of two years (2021-2022);
• Review the draft Statutes of the AU High Council of Local authorities; and
• Deliberate on functioning and synergy among the three (3) subcommittees.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES:

At the end of the 4th Ordinary Session of AU-STC no 8, the following outcomes are envisaged:
• Members States are updated on achievement made by the outgoing Bureau during its term (2019-2020) and challenges encountered;
• AU-STC no 8 Bureau is renewed for two years (2021-2022);
• AU-STC no 8 two years (2021-2022) work plan is approved;
• The draft Statutes of the AU High Council of Local authorities is considered; and
• Recommendations on better functioning and synergy among the three (3) subcommittees of the AU-STC no 8 are made.
