Africa Launches a Result Framework to Gauge Women's Role in Peace and Security

There will be a press briefing and intervention from speakers, followed by Q&A Sessions.
BACKGROUND:

In 2000 UN Security Council adopted a resolution- Resolution1325. The resolution particularly aimed to enhance the role of women in peace and Security Agenda.
The African Union is the first regional organization that appointed a Special Envoy on Women Peace and Security to facilitate the implementation of the resolution in member states.
The Special Envoy’s office, has been closely working with member states and in partnership with UN Agencies and development partners on the Agenda for the past 4 years.
So far, 23 member states have developed a national action plan towards implementation WPS agenda. Africa leads any other continent by the number of countries who have adopted the National Action Plan.
The Continental organization, African Union Commission, through its Peace and Security Council has taken another milestone in the implementation and ensuring Women’s role in peace and Security agenda. In May 2018, the office of the Special Envoy has tabled a Continental Result Framework (CRF) to the Peace and Security Council of African Union, which adopted it.
