The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, received H.E. Luisa Fragoso, Ambassador of the Republic of Portugal to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union.

The Chairperson welcomed the strong relations between Portugal and Africa, rooted in a historical framework that sustains them. He highlighted the concerning security situation on the continent, where persistent conflicts challenge the effectiveness of mechanisms such as the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA), the continental early warning system, and necessitate their readjustment, as well as clear mandates for mediators.

Finally, H.E. Luisa Fragoso expressed the EU's commitment to actively involving Africa in the reconfiguration of the global financial and economic governance architecture, in the name of the link between development and security.
