WHEN: Wednesday, 21 June 2017 at 09:30

The press conference will start at 10:10

WHERE: African Union headquarters, Addis Ababa (Small Conference Room 1)

WHO: H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC); and H.E. Mr. Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.

Why: The African Union Leadership Academy and the Zhejiang Normal University are convening a High Level Dialogue and Think-Tank Forum to learn from the experience of poverty alleviation in China and Africa.

The press conference that follows will brief media representatives on discussions of their bilateral meeting and on the holding of the Africa-China Think-Tank Forum and High Level Dialogue on “Fighting Against Poverty for common Prosperity”.

Background: The Forum will focus particularly on the way poverty has been dealt with in China and in Africa in the past two decades. It will draw lessons from the two decades of poverty alleviation experience of government and civil society organisations. Particular focus will be given to rural poverty and to the type of policies and programs that have made the most impact. Selected case studies from Africa will be presented to allow scholars, policy makers, and civil society organisations, to identify main features of policy directions in successfully alleviating poverty.

All media representatives are invited to attend and cover the forum’s opening ceremony and the press conference on Wednesday, 21 June 2017, starting at 09:30, at the African Union Commission.
