TEN YEAR CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAM: UNECA HANDS OVER REPORT TO THE AFRICAN UNION COMMISSION
Addis Ababa, 28 June, 2012- The report of the UN 10 Year Capacity Building Program was officially handed over today Thursday, 28 June, 2012 to Mr. Erastus Mwencha, Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC) by Mr. Abdoulie Janneh, UN Under-Secretary General and Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). The ceremony took place at the new African Union Conference Centre, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
According to the AUC Deputy Chairperson, the UN Capacity building Program was developed to encourage the UN and the AU joint efforts in addressing the challenges of Africa’s development, by emphasizing on capacity building. “ I am of the firm belief that this common stance assumed by both the AU and the UN has been instrumental in releasing the renewed energy and interest which has impelled the implementation of the ten years capacity building programme forward, the result of which we have witnessed today” Mr. Mwencha underlined.
Referring to the report titled “UN System Support of the African Union Capacity Building Programme” Mr. Janneh, developing a work program is an important mile stone in achieving the objective set out in the ten year capacity building. He urged the two parties to ensure the implementation of the activities in the program.
