The African Union will convene the Fifth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting (5th MYCM) of the African Union, the Regional Economic Communities, the Regional Mechanisms and the African Union Member States on the on 16th July 2023, in Nairobi Kenya. The meeting will be convened under the AU theme of the year 2023 “Acceleration of African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Implementation”. The meeting will be preceded by the 43rd Ordinary Session of the Executive Council, which will take place from the 13th to 14th of July 2023.
The African Union Commission (AUC) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) launched the Africa Facility to Support Inclusive Transitions (AFSIT), on the side-lines of the 5th African Union Mid-Year Coordination Meeting, in Nairobi, Kenya, on 15 July 2023. AFSIT aims at providing support to countries undergoing complex political transitions and countries at risk.
The Executive Council has elected and appointed members of several African Union organs. The elections are held in adherence of equitable geographical and gender representation. To be duly elected, the candidates must attain two thirds majority votes.
The meeting of the African Union 5th Mid-Year Coordination Meeting bringing together Regional Economic Communities (RECs), Regional Mechanism (RMs) and member states kicked off on the 13th of July 2023 with the Ministerial Meeting of the Executive Council.
