Africa Focused Sessions at Women Deliver Conference to Address "Maputo @20: Bridging the Gap Between Policies and People"

What: The African Union Commission's Women, Gender, and Youth Directorate (AUC-WGYD) and the African Development Bank's Gender, Women and Civil Society Engagements (AfDB-AHGC) are pleased to announce the Africa Focused Sessions at the upcoming Women Deliver Conference. The sessions will be held in collaboration with other key partners, UN Agencies, International Organizations, and CSOs on 18 – 19 July 2023.

Under the theme "Maputo @20: Bridging the Gap Between Policies and People," the Africa Focused Sessions aim to reflect on a myriad of thematic issues that are critical to be addressed in order to protect and promote the rights of women. This event will provide a platform for stakeholders from across Africa to come together and discuss strategies and solutions to advance gender equality and empower women and girls.

The Africa Focused Sessions will feature engaging panel discussions, interactive workshops, and informative presentations, led by renowned AU experts, policymakers, activists, and grassroots leaders. Participants will have the opportunity to explore various topics such as women's health, education, economic empowerment, political participation, and the elimination of gender-based violence.

Session 1

Theme: “Maputo@20: Bridging the Gap Between Policies and People”

  • H.E. Madam Jeannette Kagame, First Lady of the Republic of Rwanda

The overall objective is to advocate for African priorities on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE), to advance and influence the global position GEWE.
