China Donates Medical Supplies to African Union Commission

The Chinese Ambassador to the African Union, H.E. Liu Yuxi, on behalf of the Government of the People’s Republic of China donated protective gears and medical equipment to the African Union Commission (AUC).

Receiving the items on behalf of the Commission, the Deputy Chairperson, H.E. Mr Kwesi Quartey expressed the Commission’s gratitude to the Government and People of China for their solidarity and continuous support to Africa, particularly, during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr Quartey stated that the items would complement the Commission’s efforts towards tracing, testing and treatment of staff members of the AUC and the diplomatic community in Addis Ababa at large.
On his part, Amb. Yuxi commended the African Union (AU) for the remarkable leadership shown in containing the spread of the pandemic while pledging his Government’s commitment to the attainment of the broad continental agenda.

The Deputy Chairperson was accompanied by Dr Kilenga Naftal, Head of AUC Medical Services, Mr Sabelo Mbokazi, President, AU Staff Association and other senior officials of the Commission.

The items comprise surgical masks, isolation gowns, shoe covers, googles, forehead thermometers, ventilators and oxygen generators.
