Global and regional challenges, including climate change, biodiversity loss, energy access, food security, especially in the context of a growing population, require us to develop new solutions and break away from ‘business as usual’. The proposed Workshop is a 2-day meeting regrouping key stakeholders in the blue economy, including AU Member States and RECs to discuss pathways to implement recommendations on the economic opportunities, innovation potential and climate solutions being offered by the blue economy including blue energy. Furthermore, the African Union Commission is conducting a mapping exercise on economic and innovation potential in the blue economy in Africa, which will be presented during the workshop for discussion. The Workshop will also provide the opportunity to set the stage for the development of sustainable, knowledge-based sectors related to the Blue Economy.

Participation:

The meeting will be attended by the representatives of African Union member states, experts, and stakeholders from academia, science, private sector and civil society.
