Background

The maiden biennial continental reporting on Agenda 2063 will be commemorated under the theme, "Evidence-Based Reporting for Collective Reflection and Action on Agenda 2063". This report is a consolidation and evidence-based assessment of country and regional-level progress reports on Agenda 2063, complemented with interventions and results achieved at the regional and continental level. It serves as a rallying point for all stakeholders, including national and sub-national governments, regional bodies, and civil society, academia and development partners, to collectively accelerate the implementation of Africa's development blueprint.

The African Union Commission (AUC) and the African Union Development Agency-NEPAD (AUDA-NEPAD) coordinated the continental-level progress reports aimed to achieve Agenda 2063's First Ten-Year Implementation Plan.

1. Objectives of the High-Level Forum on Agenda 2063

The High-Level Forum on Agenda 2063 is planned to serve the following purposes:

a) To avail a continental-level platform to Heads of State and Government share their progress reports on the implementation of Agenda 2063 with their peers, policymakers, academics, the media, civil society and other development stakeholders – for purposes of strengthening networking, benchmarking, peer learning and mutual support;

b) To increase awareness and publicity around Agenda 2063, and commemorate the maiden biennial reporting on Africa’s blueprint; and

c) To advocate for enhanced internalisation, alignment, mainstreaming, implementation of, and empirical reporting on Agenda 2063 into national development planning and implementation instruments.

2. Expected Outcomes

The High-Level Forum on Agenda 2063 is expected to generate the following:

i. Increased awareness among the range of development players on the continent - on Agenda 2063 and its associated reporting processes;

ii. A compendium of good and innovative practices and recommendations of strategies for enhancing and accelerating the implementation of, and reporting on Agenda 2063;

iii. Recommendations for AU Member States, RECs, AU organs and entities, and development partners on alignment, domesticating, (peer) support and reporting on the implementation of Agenda 2063.
