AU Commission Staff organize farewell ceremony for outgoing Chairperson and Commissioners

The Staff Association of the African Union Commission (AUC), the Office of the Director General and the Dean of Directors at the AUC jointly organized a heartfelt farewell ceremony on 6th March 2025 to honor the outgoing Chairperson, the Deputy Chairperson and the esteemed Commissioners.

The event, held at the AU headquarters was a memorable occasion reflecting on their leadership, significant contributions and achievements during their time in the office.

The ceremony brought together AU staff, dignitaries, and representatives from member states, all united in expressing gratitude for the leadership and vision demonstrated by Chairperson, the Deputy Chairperson and the Commissioners. The event featured speeches highlighting their accomplishments, which have positively impacted the continent.

In his address, H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, outgoing Chairperson of the African Union Commission expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the outgoing leadership and the staff members. “Your dedication, resilience, and commitment to the AU mission have been truly inspiring. It is your hard work that has driven our progress and strengthened our collective efforts”. Commending the AU staff members on the occasion of the farewell ceremony the Chairperson said, “I am proud of what we have accomplished together and confident that you will continue your commitment on the same spirit with the incoming new Commission”. ‘It is a great privilege to serve 1.4 billion People of African Continent’, he concluded.

Amb. Fathallah Sijilmassi, Director General of the African Union Commission commended the strong leadership carried out over the last period of eight years with dedication, conviction, and efficiency in favor of the Continent. “Your mandate was marked by the particularly complex international and continental situation, but you were able to lead the Commission brilliantly with determination and always with the supreme interest of the Continent at heart”.

The Staff Association of the African Union Commission, the office of the Director General and the Dean of Directors held a farewell ceremony for the outgoing Commission of the African Union Commission ahead of their departure to show appreciation of their leadership, service and dedication to the Commission during their terms.

Mr. Nouhou Thiam, Head of AU Organ Divisions and the President of AU Staff Association appreciated the outgoing Commission and the Chairperson for their commitment to African development and Integration and commended their leadership.

He appreciated the entire staff members of the Commission for the Farewell Ceremony.

Dr. Regina Muzamai, Director Office of Internal Oversight and the Dean of Directors at the AU Commission praised the strong and exemplary leadership of the Chairperson and the outgoing Commission. She assured the outgoing commission that the management will continue its commitment and professionalism towards advancing the realisation of AU Agenda 2063 programme.

The farewell ceremony included a photography montage showcasing memorable moments and milestones achieved under their leadership, followed by a gift ceremony tributes from the AU Staff.

- H.E Prof. Mohammed Belhocine, Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (ESTI) (2021-2024)
- H.E. Amani Abou-Zeid, Commissioner for Infrastructure & Energy - (2017-2024)
- H.E. Amb. Minata Samate- Served as the Commissioner for the Department of Political Affairs and the Directorate of Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development (HHS) - (2017-2024)
