Agenda 2063 is the blueprint and master plan for transforming Africa into the global powerhouse of the future. It is the strategic framework for delivering on Africa’s goal for inclusive and sustainable development and is a concrete manifestation of the pan-African drive for unity, self-determination, freedom, progress and collective prosperity pursued under Pan-Africanism and African Renaissance.
H.E President William Samoei Ruto (PhD), President of the Republic of Kenya and the African Union Champion on Institutional Reform. H.E. Ruto was appointed during the 37th Assembly of Heads of State and Government in February 2024 to champion the AU Institutional Reform process taking over from the H.E Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda who led the implementation of the reform process since 2016.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Monday, October 21, 2019. H.E Fernando Zalaquett, Ambassador of Chile to the African Union, accompanied by Commander Luis Felipe Gracia, Executive Secretary of the General Directorate of the Maritime Authority of Chile, called on H.E Kwesi Quartey, Deputy Chairperson of the AU Commission, to solicit the support of the Union for Chiles’s re-election in Category ‘C’ of the IMO Council.
Speaking on behalf of the Chile government, H.E Zalaquett said, ‘Chile seeking re-election, is reinforcing its commitment to continue to contribute towards the safety of human life at sea, the preservation of oceans, their resources, and cleanliness. We, therefore, count on your usual support’.
H.E Quartey, welcomed the team and noted that the AU is poised to explore the sustainable development of African’s Blue Economy and as such, have a lot to learn from Chile.
The two parties discussed the possibility of entering into technical cooperation in the areas of Search and Rescue and Maritime Administration where Chile has a comparative advantage. The discussion also touched on issues such as climate change, Africa’s bulging youth population, and other matters of interest.
The Deputy Chairperson wished Chile well whilst pledging the support of the AU.
He wished the participants fruitful deliberations and assured them of the AU's partnership in the implementation of the outcomes of the conference.
