Malawi 10 February 2016 , the newly appointed AU-SARO Regional Delegate, H.E. Dr. Ngomo Auguste, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Malawi, Hon. Dr. George T. Chaponda, MP to present his accreditation letter.

After general welcome remarks, the Minister focused his attention on the current challenging situation that the country is facing, mainly the food security crisis and its strong negative impact on the inflation of food price. He indicated that this situation is more complex and highly influenced by the scarcity of hard currency.

The Minister informed the AU Representative about the President’s official statement on the food crisis situation and has however, made a call for international assistance.

The Minister also mentioned about the Mozambican refugees who are currently present in the country. He indicated that the Malawi Government is working hard to ensure their safety and wellbeing though it is quite difficult considering the current challenge the country is facing.
