AU Commission Chairperson congratulates Liberian President-Elect, hails statesmanship of outgoing President following announcement of official election results

20 November 2023, Addis Ababa: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E Moussa Faki Mahamat congratulates President-elect Mr Joseph N Boakai for his victory in Liberia's presidential run-off elections held on 14 November 2023, following the announcement of the final official election results.

The Chairperson hails the statesmanship of outgoing President George Weah, for gracefully accepting the outcome of the elections. He further commends the National Elections Commission and all stakeholders for the successful conduct of peaceful and credible elections.

The Chairperson further invites all parties to continue to display maturity and embrace dialogue to consolidate democracy, inclusiveness, the Rule of Law, peace and security and enhance inclusive socio-economic development for the people of the Republic of Liberia.

The Chairperson also wishes to express his deep gratitude to H.E Dr Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, former Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa and current Member of the AU Panel of the Wise for her leadership as Head of the AU Election Observation Mission to Liberia.

In this regard, the Chairperson reaffirms the determination of the AU to continue supporting the Republic of Liberia, in collaboration with Regional bodies and International partners, to strengthen democratic stability and unity in the country.
