Agenda 2063 is the blueprint and master plan for transforming Africa into the global powerhouse of the future. It is the strategic framework for delivering on Africa’s goal for inclusive and sustainable development and is a concrete manifestation of the pan-African drive for unity, self-determination, freedom, progress and collective prosperity pursued under Pan-Africanism and African Renaissance.
H.E. Mr. Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda, was appointed to lead the AU institutional reforms process. He appointed a pan-African committee of experts to review and submit proposals for a system of governance for the AU that would ensure the organisation was better placed to address the challenges facing the continent with the aim of implementing programmes that have the highest impact on Africa’s growth and development so as to deliver on the vision of Agenda 2063.

WHAT: The African Union (AU) Commission will hold the 16th Ordinary Session of the Specialized Technical Committee on Defense, Safety and Security (STCDSS).
WHEN: 5 June 2024, at 0900 Hours EAT.
WHERE: Nelson Mandela Hall, New Conference Building, African Union Headquarters, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
WHO: Attendees include African Ministers of Defense, Internal Affairs, and Heads of National Institutions in Charge of Safety and Security, High Official Representatives from AU Member States, as well as from the Regional Economic Communities and Regional Mechanisms (RECs/RMs).
Background information.
This year’s meeting will serve as a platform for Member States to collaborate, share insights, and reinforce collective efforts in addressing emerging security challenges on the continent. It also serves as a platform for the Commission to provide progress updates on implementation of decisions of the STCDSS and other policy organs and for priorities related to peace and security on the continent for continuous guidance by Member States. It underscores the AU’s commitment to enhancing peace, security, and stability in Africa.
The STCDSS meeting will be preceded by the 19th Ordinary Session of the African Chiefs of Defense Staff and Heads of Safety and Security Services (ACDS/HSS) on 4 June 2024, and the Preparatory Meeting of Experts for the 16th Ordinary Session of the Specialized Technical Committee on Defense, Safety and Security on 3 June 2024, respectively.
