INVITATION TO THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE MEDIA

What:

  1. Preparatory Meeting of Experts for the Fourteenth Ordinary Meeting of the Specialized Technical Committee on Defense, Safety and Security, 9 May 2022.
  2. The 17th Ordinary Meeting of the African Chiefs of Defense Staff and Heads of Safety and Security Services, 11 May 2022.
  3. The 14th Ordinary Meeting of the Specialized Technical Committee on Defense, Safety and Security, 12 May 2022.

When: Opening Ceremonies start from 9:00 am

Where: African Union Headquarters, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia Nelson Mandela Hall, New Conference Building

Who: African Ministers of Defense, Internal Affairs, and Heads of National Institutions in Charge of Safety and Security, High Official Representatives from AU Member States, as well as from the Regional Economic Communities and Regional Mechanisms (RECs/RMs).

Why:

  1. To consider the Report of the Chairperson of the AU Commission which outlines the Commission’s continued effort in the enhancement of the African Standby Force (ASF) and deployment of Peace Support Operations, to address conflicts, terrorism and violent extremism as well as broader peace and security challenges in the continent.
  2. To consider the memorandum of understanding between the African Union and the Regional Economic Communities and Regional Mechanisms on the African Standby Force.
  3. To consider the draft (2021-2025) work plan on the enhancement of the African Standby Force.
  4. To consider the draft Policy on Child Protection in African Union Peace Support Operations (PSOs) and draft Policy on Mainstreaming Child Protection in African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA).

Media representatives are invited to cover the opening ceremony of the three levels of Meetings Specialized Technical Committee on Defense, Safety and Security on 9, 11 and 12 May 2022 respectively
