The inaugural meeting of the Political Heads of the African Governance Architecture (AGA) and Platform took place in Kigali, Rwanda from December 9-10, 2015. This meeting followed the Fourth High Level Dialogue on Democracy, Governance and Human Rights focusing on 'Women's Equal Participation and Leadership in Political Parties' that took place from December 7-8, 2015.

The political meeting was opened by the Commissioner for Political Affairs, Dr. Aisha Abdullahi and the Chair of the AU Permanent Representative Committee Amb. Albert Chimbindi.
The meeting:

a. Reviewed the status of operationalisation of the AGA and its Clusters
b. Considered and adopted AGA Base Documents, including the Framework Document, Draft Rules of Procedure (as approved by the Specialized Technical Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs);
c. Considered the outcomes of the Arusha PRC Retreat and status of the implementation of recommendations;
d. Considered and adopted the flagship initiatives of the 2016 Project on the Year of Human Rights; and
e. Elected Members of the Bureau of the AGP

Elections for provisional members of the African Governance Platform were carried out, resulting in the election of the Pan African Parliament as the Chair, COMESA as vice-chair and the African Union Commission as the rapporteur.

The Meeting was attended by 12 Representatives of the African Governance Architecture Platform Members: the African Union Commission; the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights; the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights; the Pan African Parliament; the African Peer Review Mechanism; the African Union Advisory Board on Corruption; the Economic Social and Cultural Council, the Community of Sahel- Saharan States; the Economic Community of Central African States, the East African Community, the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development, Common Market for East and Southern Africa.
