Addis Ababa, 7 June 2024: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, has followed with keen interest the process and outcome of the General Elections organized in the Republic of South Africa on 29 May 2024.

The Chairperson warmly congratulates the Government and People of South Africa for the successful conduct of the elections which were judged to have been free, fair and peaceful by both national and international observers, including the African Union Election Observation Mission.

The Chairperson further encourages all political parties to put the national interest first in the quest to form a government that meets the aspirations of all South Africans.
