Commemoration of the 20th Anniversary: Exhibition of Humanitarian Action, Peace, and Security in Africa

What:
The Peace and Security Council (PSC) is organizing an Exhibition Day on Humanitarian, Peace, and Security as a key activity in commemorating its 20th Anniversary. This event is part of a series of activities and PSC sessions scheduled from March to December 2024, aimed at assessing the Council's evolution and its discharge of mandate.

When:
Monday, 13 May 2024, at 10:00 am (EAT).

Where:
Lobby area, the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Political Affairs, Peace, and Security Building, African Union Headquarters, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Why:
The exhibition aims to showcase the African Union (AU) Commission’s Humanitarian Action efforts on the continent. It is an opportunity for humanitarian agencies to highlight their work in the continent. Over the years, the PSC has engaged and partnered with various stakeholders to prevent, manage, and resolve conflicts, as well as to address humanitarian situations.

Who:
AU Member States, Regional Economic Communities and Regional Mechanisms (RECs/RMs), United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU), United Nations Agencies, International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and other invited partners and guests.

During the Exhibition, the following dignitaries will make short statements:

  • PSC Chairperson
  • Commissioner for Political Affairs Peace and Security
  • Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs, and Social Development
  • Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General to the AU and Head of UNOAU

Partners such as the World Food Programme (WFP) and ICRC will exhibit their activities and provide a visual map of their humanitarian diplomacy in Africa.
