OBJECTIVES:

The fifth edition of the Continental TJ Forum aims to achieve the following three objectives:

  1. To review the extent to which TJ processes have (or have not) incorporated traditional justice mechanisms to secure and build the Africa we want in accordance with the AU theme of the year, “The Arts, Culture and Heritage: Levers for Building the Africa We Want”;
  2. To evaluate the application and applicability of transitional justice to address emerging challenges and crises;
  3. To generate concrete and practical ideas on how to effectively implement both the AUTJP and Study on Transitional Justice and Human and People’s Rights in Africa (TJ Study) Study) to address existing and ongoing challenges as well as new threats to Africa’s peace and democratic order.

PARTICIPANTS:

The Forum will bring together government officials working at the Ministries of Justice, Truth and Reconciliation Commissions, scholars, researchers, practitioners, policy makers, representatives of civil society organizations and other interested participants working on transitional justice issues in Africa.
