WHAT: (Videoconference) MID-YEAR COORDINATION MEETING OF THE AFRICAN UNION, THE REGIONAL ECONOMIC COMMUNITIES (RECs) AND THE REGIONAL MECHANISMS (RMs)

WHEN: 22 OCTOBER 2020

TIME: 12.00 – 12.30 hrs OPEN SESSION OPENING CEREMONY

WHO: Organised by the African Union Commissioned (AUC), the virtual meeting will be attended by Heads of State and Government of the African Union from the RECs and RMs, the Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of the AU Commission, AU Commissioners, Representatives from the RECs and RMs and AU staff..

The official opening ceremony will include the following key speakers:

• Opening of proceedings by H.E. Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa and Chairperson of the African Union ;and
• Statement by H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission.

The Heads of State and Government will then proceed in close session to consider and adopt the following reports: progress report on COVID-19 pandemic in Africa, the report on the division of Labour between the African Union, the Regional Economic Communities, the Regional Mechanisms and Member States, the status report on Regional Integration and the draft Declaration of the 2nd Mid-Year Coordination Meeting between the African Union, the Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and the Regional Mechanisms (RMs) .

The closing ceremony of the virtual conference is expected to take place from 16.00 – 16.30 hrs. It will consist of the closing statement by H.E. Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa and Chairperson of the African Union.
