The AU is charged with spearheading Africa’s rapid integration and sustainable development by promoting unity, solidarity, cohesion and cooperation among the peoples of Africa and African States as well as developing a New Partnership worldwide. Its Headquarters is located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The vision of the African Union is that of "An integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in the global arena". The African Union conducts its election observation in accordance with the AU Charter on Democracy Elections and Governance; the OAU/AU Declaration on Principles Governing Democratic Elections in Africa; the AU Guidelines for Election Observation and Monitoring Missions; the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights; and the Declaration of Principles for International Election Observation. It will also be guided by Zimbabwe’s constitution & legal framework governing the conduct of elections.

Journalists are invited to cover the deployment of the observers. More information on other AUEOM events will be released soon.
