AU Commission Chairperson urges for peace ahead of upcoming Ugandan Presidential elections

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – 16 February 2016: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma has called for peace and calm before, during and after the Presidential elections in Uganda, which are scheduled to take place on Thursday, 18 February 2016.

The AU Commission Chairperson notes the smooth preparations made so far, and appeals to all stakeholders to ensure that voting takes place in peaceful and inclusive atmosphere. She encourages voters to turn out to perform their civic responsibility in an orderly and lawful manner.

The AU Commission Chairperson also reiterates the need for stakeholders in Uganda to resort to officially recognized channels to resolve any disputes relating to the electoral process before, during and after the elections.

The AU Commission Chairperson reaffirms the African Union’s commitment and support to democratic elections on the continent through the deployment of election observers to Member States holding elections, including Uganda.
