Banjul, The Gambia, 21 October 2018: The Department of the Political Affairs of the African Union Commission in close collaboration with the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights and other organs of the African Union with a human rights mandate and distinguished guests commemorated the Africa Human Rights Day in Banjul, The Gambia on 21 October 2018. This year’s theme for the commemoration is “Fighting Corruption and Advancing Human Rights: Our Collective Responsibility” as the nexus between human rights violations and corruption can no longer be ignored.

Addis Ababa, 5 October 2018: The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union (AU), Moussa Faki Mahamat, concluded a 24-hour visit to The Gambia yesterday. During his visit, he met with President Adama Barrow, with whom he had a wide ranging exchange of views on various issues of common interest.

Addis Ababa, 24 March 2017: Following an invitation from the Government of the Republic of the Republic of The Gambia, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), His Excellency Moussa Faki Mahamat, has approved the deployment of an African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) to The Gambia’s National Assembly Elections scheduled for 6 April 2017 from 27 March to 12 April 2017.
